Mikael Starzynski, winner of the Wairarapa Secondary Schools Sports person of the Year 2018.

Mikael is a stand out Athlete who has the results to show for his hard work. Starting the year with success at the Wairarapa Inter Collegiate Athletics with 1st place in the senior boys 200m, 400m, triple jump and 4x100m relay.   This led on to the Wellington School Champs where he placed 1st in the senior boys 400m and 3rd in the senior boys 200m.

At the New Zealand Track and Field Championships Mikael was 1st in the under 18 men’s 400m, 1st in the under 20 4x400m relay and 3rd in the under 18 4x100m relay.

Mikael competed in the Oceania Youth Olympics trial held in Vanuatu where he was 2nd in the 400m. He earned the honour of being the New Zealand team captain for this event.

Following on from a New Zealand Youth Olympic nomination Mikael was selected for the New Zealand Youth Olympic team as a first reserve.

Mikael was selected for the New Zealand Oceania team that competed in Samoa in October 2018 and has recently been selected for the under 18 Australian All Schools Athletics Championships as part of 16-strong team with 6 males and 10 females leaving for Cairns a few days after the NZSSA competition.
